Mayor Hau Inspects Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station

In response to concerns about when the Nangang eastern extension's Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station can come into operation, Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-Bin paid a special inspection visit to the construction site on the afternoon of December 3, 2010. Currently, civil engineering construction, the heat, ventilation & air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, tunneling, and trackwork at the station have been completed while stability testing of the electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems is under way. All construction crews have been working hard with the aim of completing work on schedule so as to provide the public with a convenient MRT ride and an easy transfer.

Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station, the terminal of the Nangang line, is located beneath Nanxi Park at the intersection of Nangang Road Section 1 and Yanjiuyuan Road and will connect with the in-service Wenhu line's Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station via an underground passageway, turning the terminal of the Nangang line and Wenhu line into a transfer hub. In addition, after the station is completed, the Taipei MRT system will be integrated in eastern Taipei and the area will become an MRT system transfer hub, opening a new page for the circular MRT network.

It is estimated that the trip from the Nangang District to Taipei Main Station will take about 20 minutes after Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station enters into operation, shortening travel times for people in the Neihu and Nangang districts going to and from downtown Taipei and for people in the Dazhi area going to the Xinyi Planning District, and for people in Taipei's eastern areas traveling to the Miramar Commercial Zone in Dazhi. It will even provide people in the Xizhi area with a convenient transportation mode to use when traveling to downtown Taipei.

Furthermore, the Nangang line will connect with Taiwan Railways and Taiwan High Speed Rail at Nangang Station to form a rail transportation hub, sharing transport volume with Taipei Main Station and Banqiao Station. It will also combine with the road system at Nangang Bus Station. In the near future, the Nangang line will extend the prosperity of Taipei's eastern districts to Nangang to help it become a commercial and transportation hub in eastern Taipei.
